Simulated wave-driven ANN model for typhoon waves

چکیده
This paper investigates an artificial neural network (ANN) model for typhoon waves used to modify poor calculations of the numerical model in special cases. Two key factors, local winds and simulated waves produced by the numerical model, were used as input parameters of the proposed ANNmodel. The waves were simulated by the numerical model from a wave action equation indicating the physical processes of energy transfer and wave propagation. Simulated wave input is a very important parameter for the proposed ANN model, allowing for the accurate calculation of water waves in the sea. The applicable Mike21_SW model was chosen to provide an accurate calculation. Through model verification, the proposed ANNmodel has a particularly accurate calculation at the peak of each typhoon and at its occurrence time. The computed waves of each typhoon were examined to be consistent with the observed waves. 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Random Irregular Waves for Wave Generation in Laboratory Flumes
Understanding of wave hydrodynamics and its effects are important for engineers and scientists. Important insights may be gained from laboratory studies. Often the waves are simulated in laboratory flumes do not have the full characteristics of real sea waves. It is then necessary to present reliable methods of wave generation in wave flumes. In this paper, the results of numerically simulate...
متن کاملConsistency between Fourier transform and small-volume few-wave decomposition for spectral and spatial variability of gravity waves above a typhoon
Convective gravity wave (GW) sources are spatially localized and emit at the same time waves with a wide spectrum of phase speeds. Any wave analysis therefore compromises between spectral and spatial resolution. Future satellite borne limb imagers will for a first time provide real 3-D volumes of observations. These volumes will be however limited which will impose further constraints on the an...
متن کاملHydrodynamic Modelling of Coral Reefs:Ningaloo Reef-Western Australia
As with all coral reef systems, the ecology of Ningaloo Reef is closely linked to water circulation which transport and disperse key material such as nutrients and larvae. Circulation on coral reefs may be driven by a number of forcing mechanisms including waves, tides, wind, and buoyancy effects. Surface waves interacting with reefs have long been known to dominate the currents on many coral r...
متن کاملHigh Wind Upper Ocean Mixing with Explicit Surface Wave Processes
The work described here supports the Office of Naval Research Departmental Research Initiative (DRI) for research on the “Impact of Typhoons on the Western Pacific Ocean” (ITOP). The theme of the DRI is to better characterize and predict the ocean boundary layer (OBL) and its impact on typhoon (hurricane) evolution. This is one component of developing improved pre diction models for the couple...
